In USA specialist mental health grew by 61% between 2010 and 2014. USA's mental health system, 29% of state and territory mental health spending was dedicated to caring for people in the community by 2014, the share of total Dual Diagnosis and mental health expenditure had increased to 53%.

The increase in the numbers of heroin-related deaths from 2011 to 2012 in the suburban counties around Chicago was the most important finding for the Chicago area for this reporting period. The increases in heroin-related deaths were observed in the suburban Chicago counties of DuPage, Lake, Will, McHenry, and Kane. Epidemiological indicators suggested that heroin, cocaine, and marijuana/cannabis continued to be the most common illicit substances appearing in drug indicators in Chicago during this reporting period. These were also the drugs that were most frequently identified among drug reports from items seized by law enforcement and analysed in National Forensic Laboratory Information System (NFLIS) forensic laboratories in the first half of 2013; they accounted for 76 percent of all drug reports among drug items seized and analysed.
Statistically, 8.3 million or 55% of USA aged 16–85 will experience drug induced mental health condition like depression, anxiety or drug addiction, according to the 2009 National Institute of Drug Abuse. Dual Diagnosis will help for the treatment of both drug addiction and comorbid mental disorders March 2010 survey suggests almost 64,000 people have a psychotic illness and are in contact with public specialised mental health services.
